Systems on Sustainability of Green Buildings: An Indicative Analysis of GBI in Malaysia
Buildings are the dominant energy consumers in modern cities but their consumption can be reduced through improving efficiency. Given that climate has a large impact on the energy performance of a building, climate-responsive passive design of the building envelope may provide significant reductions in heating and cooling loads. Codes and certification indices have been shown to play an important role in achieving energy efficiency at a city-wide scale through providing guidelines.
The research will analyze and compare design and construction methods in green buildings in Malaysia. The research will focus on assessing the effect of rating systems, specifically the Green Building Index, on the approach toward and understanding of energy efficient buildings. The analysis will contribute to the understanding of the suitability and sustainability of the green rating system and suggest ways to encourage the integration passive climate responsive design features.
