Brief Biography

Dr. Tej Kumar Karki is an urban planner originally from Nepal, whose research interests range from the politics of planning implementation to climate change and disaster mitigation in cities. Prior to joining the MSCP, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Urban Planning and Design, Xian Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), Suzhou, China. At XJTLU, he taught sustainable urban planning strategies, planning law and governance. He received his PhD in 2010 from the Law, Policy and Society program at Northeastern University, Boston, and also graduated from the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok. Prior to his doctoral studies, Dr. Tej served as the chief planner at Kathmandu Town Planning Office.

Dr. Tej joined the MSCP to carry out research on flood disaster mitigation and preparedness in Johor state.
